Work packages
The WIP Project is structured in four technical workpackages (WP). Two additional workpackages are dedicated to project management and dissemination.
- WP1 (Global Architecture): The objectives of this WP are to identify the limitations of the current Internet architecture and to define the building blocks that will compose the Radio Internet at different levels (core, access, and mobile hosts)
- WP2 (Advanced Wireless Infrastructure): The WIP project will evaluate current radio technologies concerning the requirements of the global architecture and propose new physical, MAC, and cross-layer techniques to increase spectral efficiency, improve fairness in resource allocation, and minimize delay.
- WP3 (Seamless Mobility): The objectives here are to evaluate current mobility solutions with respect to the requirements of the global architecture and to design a new mobility architecture that takes into account the all- wireless interconnection.
- WP4 (Applications, Experimentation, and Measurements): WIP also aims at defining the functionalities required for the measurement of the different performance metrics in the following way:
- to identify the measurement support required at each level, and define the analysis that should be performed for the derivation of performance indices based on the captured input
- to build prototype components in order to experiment with new technologies and protocols
- to evaluate the performance of chosen applications over fundamentally different wireless infrastructures.
